LinkedIn Groups: for people who know the difference between a conversation and an annoucement

Social media is only social if it’s reciprocal. You know, like a conversation. People love connecting with other people online. But you never hear people talk about how they can’t wait to log on to Facebook to see some announcements. Or some advertisements.

For companies and brands who are using social media to connect with people, there’s temptation to jump in and promote or announce. But  to do that–to earn the right to toot your horn– you first must become part of the conversation. Join the conversation or lead the conversation. But there must be conversation.
